WHO IS BALD IS BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHY?

Well, it's me of course! Hi, I'm Scott, just an ordinary guy who loves life and all the little nuances that it brings! Simply put, I'm a father to a wonderful son, a husband to a beautiful wife, and an amateur photographer who enjoys looking at the world through a piece of glass! I took up photography a couple of years ago, after having gastric bypass surgery. Since 12/07, I have lost 180 pounds, but found a real passion for documenting life with my camera. I could say that the big names out there have inspired me, and they have, But my true inspiration comes from the people I meet everyday who share the same thoughts and zeal I have for photography. We are truly blessed with some really great photographers around Nashville. So, what are you waiting for.... ...grab a camera, snap some pics, and enjoy life to the fullest!

Perceptions!

When you look at the following picture, what do you see?

Do you see white dots, or black dots? Or do you see both?

Now, when you look at this before and after picture, what do you see?

Do you see a guy who has lost a lot of weight? Do you think this guy is the perfect weight loss patient? Maybe you see someone who is eating all the right things. Someone who puts a lot of thought into what he eats? I see something totally different than you...I promise!

Visual perception is something that all of us suffer from. In the first picture with the black squares, did you know there are only white circles. The black ones are tricks, that our minds eye plays on us!

The same can be said by my picture!

You see someone who has lost a lot of weight. You see someone who thinks about what goes in my pouch. I only wish that were true! You see, I have gained a few pounds back. Like I said a few weeks ago, I’m happy where I’m at, but I have to be very careful!

In the past few months, old habits have re-surfaced. From what I’m hearing from friends, this is happening to them as well! The bad thing is, they are afraid to seek some help. They’ re afraid that people would point their finger and say, “See, I told you so”. The problem is, they are right! And the really unfortunate aspect is, the people pointing fingers are the ones who should know better! Friends who have had weight loss surgery themselves!

Support is something we all need. We need it when we are climbing that mountain of weight loss, but we also need it when we have crashed in the valley below! We need support to cheer us on, but also to build us up!

Right now, I need support and prayers to help me stay on the straight and narrow. I’ve not come to far to just give up and head in the wrong direction! I guess what I’m really trying to say is this…the next time Charlie Rich starts singing “Behind Closed Doors”, I need to open that door quickly! I don’t need to be a perception puzzle, my life needs to be an open book! No more hiding behind closed doors and eating junk!

I think it's time to be honest, I need an accountability partner! Any takers?

Long winded Susy here... LOL

I’ll be honest because my health is important to me and I want to make myself proud. I do not want to let old habits resurface and sneak there way back into my life now that things are becoming more comfortable. I don’t want to ignore them; I want to learn from my past mistakes and face them straight on. I’m scared-yes, - scared as heck some days. If anyone can screw this up-it’s me. *That’s negative Susy talking there. (Bad Susy) I see patterns sometimes returning and becoming more comfortable again. I see myself snacking and picking more some days. And it all adds up. I even thought to myself the other day that I’ve noticed I’ve made and pushed myself to the point of being too full and uncomfortable a few times. And why? Hm I have found the past few weeks that when my son is eating something ‘yummy’ I am asking for a bite again and even he has looked at me strange. I saw a peanut butter and bread habit forming a few weeks ago. Great snack once in awhile, not everyday. I noticed it and have been PB sandwich free for a few weeks now. I wanted the sandwich the other day @ Subway but I got the salad. I try really hard to remember that for 40 years I ate what I wanted and look where that got me. That helps me make better decisions most days. Do you know I have still not ordered a big mac from McDonalds…Why cause I’m afraid it might not make me sick and then all know I can eat them again. I still don’t trust myself. I’ve been open about that on my blog. It’s just easier for me to keep crap food out of my house for the most part. Out of sight, mostly out of mind. But if it’s in the house I’ll find it sooner or later. We have to be honest and not push them inside anymore. We looked away for way to long to let ourselves down again Scott. And we had to look away for years or we would of never let ourselves become so unhealthy. Let’s not forget what it felt like to be obese. I’m saying no to my kettle korn habit next Saturday night. Just say NO!

Scott,
Thanks so much for posting this. I know I can learn a lot from those of you who have gone before me. I'm early out and staying on track isn't hard for me yet, but I know that things wont stay this way. I will always take to heart the experiences of you and others who are farther out because I know I will be there someday. I appreciate your putting this out there for us newbies to learn from
